Thanks for stopping by!
We are sophomore students at Texas Tech University. We are both majoring in ag - Shelby in Agricultural Education and Hallie in Agricultural Communications. We met each other the beginning of our freshman year in the dorms and have been great friends ever since. We became workout buddies, breakfast buddies, and pretty much everything-else-buddies! We both decided we didn't want to gain the dreadful Freshman 15, so we made (Shelby much more frequent than Hallie) trips to the rec center to workout several times a week. We also ate our meals together so we were much more conscious about making healthy choices. With each other's help, we managed to avoid gaining weight in the dorms, thankfully!
This blog is a place for us to document recipes we're trying, new stuff we do in the kitchen, trips to the grocery store, tips and tricks we've learned about saving money or calories and anything else that goes on in our life that we want to share with you. Now, not necessarily every thing we post will be healthy or cost efficient, but we live by the motto, "One cookie never made anyone fat!" And we believe in splurging a little now and then - it's good for the soul. ;)
Meet Hallie:
Other than food, I have a passion for agriculture, doing anything outside (especially when it's hot!) children, dogs (pit bull advocate!) and a huge one is music - specifically Texas Country/Red Dirt/Americana. I'll probably talk about most of these from time to time!
I have always been able to maintain a good balance of school, work and have a decent social life. My family says I'm like a mullet.. business in the front, party in the back. :D There is no place I'd rather be than a good concert with plenty of boys to dance with. I am spontaneous and love to go out and have a good time on the weekends, but I know when it's time to hit the books. I am a communications intern at a large cotton company in Lubbock (smack dab in the middle of cotton country). I grew up in a small town just an hour away from where I live now. I graduated with 52 people and my town's population is just over 3,000. I am lucky enough to be from the town where both of my parents grew up. Both sets of grandparents also live there, so I am very close to my extended family. I was raised on typical country values. My dad is a spray pilot, so you won't hear me talking much about organic produce... that would be like a cattle rancher's daughter being a vegetarian! :) Everything in my family revolves around the kitchen table. I am very blessed that both of my parents are amazing cooks. Nothing is better than Mama's chicken fried steak or homemade pies and Daddy makes the best ribs in the world. Fact. Obviously, I love good country cookin' and of course, every West Texas girl loves her Tex-Mex. I battle those cravings daily but I am constantly trying to find ways to get my comfort food fix without all the pesky calories that come with deep fried, gravy smothered, greasy, cheesy grub! I am a work in progress. :)
Meet Shelby:
I am a south Texas girl deep down but I am pretty sure west Texas will always have my heart! I am from Pleasanton, Texas which is south of San Antonio. I grew up playing volleyball, showing pigs, and rodeoing. Currently, my family raises show pigs so my family lives and breathes the swine industry. I love every second of it and wouldn't change it for the world. In high school, I was the girl that you wouldn't find on the track running in the afternoon but my life has taken a complete turn. After my volleyball career ended, I realized that I would have to keep up my physical activity and it is a good thing I did! I have started making healthier choices in what I eat and working out is a must for me! It is hard to balance it all while in college but I am determined to do it. I am a tight wad and have the biggest sweet tooth of anyone but I don't let that get the best of me. Making healthy choices, and saving money is apart of my everyday life!
